Fall 2026 Reinstatement for Application after Dismissal

A student may apply for reinstatement to the Academic Dismissal/Reinstatement Committee on the basis of: injury or illness, the death of a relative, or other special circumstances, with appropriate documentation.  Therefore, documentation is required in order for your application to be reviewed.

Utilize the below application to provide appropriate documentation regarding your dismissed status that will assist the Academic Dismissal/Reinstatement Committee during their review of your application.

Examples of relevant documentation (this list is not exhaustive):

• Illness or Injury: A note from your doctor, hospital discharge paperwork, ER visit summary, or documentation from a mental health professional
• Loss of a Family Member: A copy of a death certificate, obituary, or a letter from a funeral home, clergy member, or hospital
• Other Special Circumstances:
  • Court documents (summons, custody orders, etc.)
  • Police reports (accident, theft, or other incidents)
  • Military deployment or training orders
  • Housing or eviction notices
  • Documentation from a caseworker, counselor, or social service agency
  • Official paperwork related to natural disasters or other emergencies

If some time has passed and you no longer have access to documents related to the original circumstance, we understand. In those cases, you may submit other information that demonstrates your readiness to return to college. Examples include:

• Transcripts showing coursework completed at SUNY Broome or another higher education institution with minimum grades of C or higher after the dismissal
• Certificates or licenses you have earned
• Documentation of steady employment or professional experience related to your intended career field
• Any other evidence that highlights your preparedness for academic success
